Overview

XFlow is a next generation CFD software system from Next Limit Technologies that uses a proprietary, particle-based, meshless approach which can easily handle traditionally complex problems.

Key Features

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology allows the analysis of flow behavior in virtual environments, lowering costs and times, and thus offering a real alternative to analysis in experimental facilities.

The XFlow approach to CFD analysis enables complex modeling in a straightforward way, minimizing the presence of algorithmic parameters and avoiding the traditionally time consuming meshing process.

Meshless approach

The meshless approach within XFlow is particle-based and fully Lagrangian which means classic fluid domain meshing is not required and surface complexity is not a limiting factor. XFlow can handle moving bodies and deformable parts, and is tolerant with the quality of the input geometry.

Particle-based kinetic solver

XFlow features a novel particle-based kinetic algorithm that resolves the Boltzman and the compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The solver features state-of-the-art LES (Large Eddy Simulation) modelling, and advanced non-equilibrium wall models.

The kinetic approach has been specifically designed to perform very fast with accessible hardware. It provides Large Eddy Simulation (LES) analysis in CPU-times similar to most codes providing just RANS analysis.

Adaptive wake refinement

XFlow's engine automatically adapts the resolved scales to the user's requirements, refining the quality of the solution near the walls and dynamically adapting to the wake while the flow develops.

Single consistent wall model

XFlow uses a unified non-equilibrium wall function to model the boundary layer. This wall model works in all cases, meaning that it is not necessary to select between different algorithms and take care of different limitations related to each scheme.

Near-linear scalable performance

XFlow is fast and efficient, even on a standard desktop PC. High performance computers are not required. XFlow is fully parallelized for multi-core technology with near-linear scalability.

Workflow

XFlow provides a unique and novel interface and working environment for the user (including pre-processor, solver and post-processor fully integrated in the same environment), state-of-the-art visualization, and a configurable layout.

Pre processing

Being particle-based, the algorithms behind XFlow lower the requirements imposed on the CAD models, e.g. for external aerodynamics around fixed parts the software is not concerned with moving or crossing surfaces as soon as these define a coherent fluid volume. Thus the complexity of the model is not a limiting factor in XFlow.

Moreover, the traditionally time consuming meshing process is totally avoided and the software just requires the target scales that the user wants to resolve for the far field, the near shapes or within the wake. Minimizing the algorithmic parameters makes the setup process closer to reality.

Post processing

The post processing capabilities of XFlow allow an interactive visualization for a deep understanding of the results. Users can choose to display:

  • Isosurfaces

In addition XFlow provides tools for numerical processing and allows export to third-party applications such as ParaView.
